From Out-of-School to Outer Space:  Exploring the Solar System with NASA

Completed in 2011

Project Director: Georgia Hall

NIOST was responsible for conducting an evaluation of a new afterschool program curriculum titled “From Out-of-School to Outer Space: Exploring the Solar System with NASA,” which was developed by NASA. The focus of the project was to increase science literacy and encourage interest in science-related educational opportunities. In order for the project to be a success, the out-of-school-time trainers needed to be prepared to deliver solar-system-related content and communicate key NASA-related concepts effectively.

NIOST provided evaluation services to support all phases of the “From Out-of-School to Outer Space” project over several years. More specifically, NIOST evaluated the production of activity guides for elementary school-age children, the development of a training workshop for out-of-school-time leaders for adaptation of the guides, the piloting of a training video, and the dissemination of the products.
