Shannon Macalingay
Research Assistant
Shannon Macalingay is a Research Assistant at NIOST.
Before coming to Wellesley, she provided direct services and programming to children and adolescents in Lawrence and her hometown, Lowell. Shannon was an English and Journalism major at University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Shannon's studies revolved around Critical Race Theory and rhetoric, and application to the education system. Shannon conducted research on student racial, lingual, and socioeconomic status and association with participation in junior-year writing classes. Following graduation, Shannon became a School-Age Teacher at an afterschool program in Lawrence and then joined MassHire Lowell Young Adult Career Center. With her lived experiences in Lowell’s community and working with youth who face multiple barriers such as low-income status, housing and food insecurity, homelessness, gang and court-related issues, she strives to support youth in their journey to succeed in their education and careers.
