Shannon Macalingay is a Research Assistant at NIOST.
Shannon Macalingay is a Research Assistant at the National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST) at the Wellesley Centers for Women. At NIOST, she works alongside research associates involved with youth organizations such as Boston After School & Beyond (BASB) and the 21st CCLC Program under the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
Her previous work with the National Center on Afterschool and Summer Enrichment (NCASE) consisted of creating a monthly report on the current events regarding the care of school-age children across the country.
While attending UMass Amherst, her studies revolved around Critical RaceTheory, rhetoric, and how it applies to the education system. After graduating, she worked with young individuals who face multiple barriers such as low-income status, housing and food insecurity, homelessness, and those with gang/court-related issues. She is dedicated to providing accessible youth programs, education, and learning experiences that will help young individuals of these communities rise and succeed in their livelihoods.
